Self-Care in Summer

What have you done for your self-care today?  Even in the warm weather, and distractions with social events, I know how important it is for me to keep my self-care routine going.  Every morning when I wake up, I sit on my couch and practice mindfulness by focusing on my breathing and letting my thoughts come and go – then I boil my water for tea, let it steep, and move on to my yoga mat where I do a short 20 min practice before sitting down to breakfast.  It is only after breakfast that I turn on electronic devices or the computer, if I need to.  After work I run errands, walk or bike a little bit outside, and 2-3 times I week I swim lengths in the evening.  I also have several community groups I am part of, and I join in on mindfulness and singing activities once or twice a week.  Sunday evening is a time for nurturing myself – cooking healthy food, developing my creativity by working on songwriting, or having fun playing songs I already know.  All this care lays the groundwork for moving through a very full schedule.  Everything is about to switch to a summer schedule – with lots of changes, but I know I will find a new rhythm – and new regular practices.

What is your self-care routine?  Maybe summer is a time to switch it up, but don’t give it up 🙂

Much Love,
